Ideas To Entertain Your Kids Quietly In Shul
This Yom Kippur keep the kids quietly entertained!
Taking kids to shul on Yom Kippur can be a real challenge. While fasting, it can feel even harder to keep them calm and quiet so they don’t disturb others. Below are some helpful tips to keep children quietly occupied and engaged throughout prayers.

1. Bring Books–
Bring along picture books or “I Spy” books to keep kids quietly engaged on their own. Sensory books are also a wonderful option, especially for children with special needs, as they can help them stay calm and focused.

2. Fidget Toys–
Soft squishy toys, Wikki Stix, or felt play pieces can keep little hands busy without making noise. For children with special needs, fidget toys are especially helpful, giving them something soothing to hold when sitting still feels difficult.

3. Snack Bags–
The best thing is to pack a small snack bag so your child doesn’t get hungry or grouchy — shul is a long day, and keeping them satisfied makes it much easier for them to stay calm.

4. Give Them A Role-
Even a small one — holding a siddur, turning pages, or “helping” you follow along makes them feel included.

5. Weighted Lap Pad/ Weighted Stuffed Animal–
A weighted lap pad or stuffed animal is a must-have for a child with special needs — the gentle weight provides calming pressure that helps them feel soothed and settled during the long time in shul.
